Exclusive UMALF collection, 100% Baby Alpaca DK wool sourced directly from the high plateaux of southern Peru. More specifically from the Quechua Alpaca Cooperative. This organic and ethical Fairtrade wool pays fair compensation for the work of the farmers and women who transform it. The alpacas are reared in semi-freedom. We have received certification for our good farming practices, which respect the well-being of the animals.
This exceptional wool is the result of several years' work. Indeed, the beautiful story of this friendship has been written since 1989 and my first trip to Peru. Over thirty years of exchanges, and then close collaboration between Quechua Alpaca and Une Maille A La Fois.
Technique
Spun mechanically in a traditional spinning mill, this wool is then dyed in the workshops of our partners in Arequipa. Located in southern Peru, Arequipa is the world capital of alpaca. Each skein is worked by hand, dyed by hand for a semi-solid or shaded finish that brings light to all our products. The skein is then wound and comes to us ready to be transformed!
Characteristics
The quality of this wool is exceptional. It is made exclusively from 100% Pure Baby Alpaca. It doesn't ‘pinch’ at all and is suitable for all your projects, even those worn close to the skin. It is untreated and can be cared for by hand. It will give you a real feeling of warmth and comfort. Each skein weighs approx. 100g and measures approx. 260 meters. Single ply yarn, you can knit or crochet it from 3.5 mm. In 4 mm, it's superb!... This wool is very well suited to more airy, openwork work up to 5 mm.
